This digital inquiry book examines the experiences of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Mohawk, Oneida, Tuscarora, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca nations) during and after the American Revolution, between 1770 and 1794. Students will analyze video interviews with Haudenosaunee scholars and community members, as well as primary and secondary source documents, maps, and images to answer the central question: In what ways did the Haudenosaunee persevere through and after the American Revolution?
Includes the videos: The Haudenosaunee and the American Revolution: Life in the 1770s and The Haudenosaunee and the American Revolution: Perseverance.
Part of the series American Revolution.
Through video interviews, primary and secondary source documents, maps, and images, students will progress through five interactive, chronological chapters: 1) Haudenosaunee Lifeways, 2) War Comes to the Haudenosaunee, 3) Tensions Rise, 4) Invasion, and 5) The Practice of Peace. Students will demonstrate their key understandings through discussion, document analysis, chapter guiding questions, and review that will culminate with an evidence-based argumentative writing assessment. Student materials and lesson plans are provided for each chapter, including options for scaffolding and differentiation.
