How did the Inka Road
reflect the
local environment?

Construction methods varied to meet the demands of local conditions, using local materials, in a wide range of environments. Close to Cusco, where the most use would occur, many roadways were wide and paved with stone. In mountainous regions, portions of the Road were engineered to create a level route. Where the Road crossed streams or rivers, culverts or bridges were built.
