Collection History

Said to have been owned by a member of Geronimo's band who was being held at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; acquired by artist Walter Elmer Schofield (1867-1944) in 1885 while he was working on a ranch near San Antonio, Texas, and serving with the "San Antonio Rifles," a local militia group; inherited by his grandson Peter V.E. Schofield; donated to NMAI by Peter V.E. Schofield in 2007.
