- Said to have been made for Chief William McIntosh (Tustunnugee Hutkee [White Warrior]. Lower Muskogee [Georgia Creek], ca. 1775-1825) by one of his daughters; given by Chief McIntosh to Major Daniel Hughes (1774-1854), who served with Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812 and was the factor (trader and Indian agent) for Fort Hawkins (Macon, Georgia) and Fort Mitchell (near Phenix City, Alabama) between about 1816 and 1819; said to have been passed down in the Rodgers family of Maryland; acquired by Benjamin Duvall Palmer (1909-1992, a Maryland collector of antique firearms and Americana) by 1956; acquired at an unknown date by Rudolf G. Wunderlich (1920-2004, a well-known dealer in Western art); donated to MAI by Rudolf Wunderlich in 1969.
