Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Major Edward Johnson Abbott (1870-1948), a physician and commander of a post hospital at Fort Wood on Bedloe's Island/Liberty Island in New York Harbor; purchased by MAI at an auction of Major Abbott's collection held by the Walpole Galleries (New York City) in 1925 using funds donated by MAI trustee Harmon W. Hendricks (1846-1928).
