Artist Forum with A Tribe Called Red
Description
A Tribe Called Red from Ottawa has become the face of an urban Native youth renaissance, championing their heritage and speaking out on aboriginal issues, while being on top of popular music, fashion, and art. Since 2010, the group—currently featuring Ian Campeau aka Deejay NDN (Nipissing First Nation), Bear Witness (Cayuga First Nation), and Timothy Hill aka 2oolman (Mohawk of the Six Nations of the Grand River)—has been mixing traditional pow wow vocals and drumming with cutting-edge electronic music. This artist forum is introduced by Meredith Holmgren, Principle Investigator and Project Manager of the Smithsonian Intangible Heritage Project, and moderated by Sojin Kim, curator at the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. The artists also answer questions from the audience. This artist forum was presented by the Smithsonian's Intangible Cultural Heritage project, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. This program was recorded and webcast from the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian on August 7, 2015.
