Bringing It Home 01: Welcome and Introduction
Description
Keevin Lewis explains that the Artist Leadership Program (ALP) of the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI) aims to rebuild cultural self-confidence, challenge personal boundaries, and foster cultural continuity while reflecting artistic diversity. This year, we hosted four talented artists from communities in Cusco, Peru, Scottsdale, Arizona; Temuco, Chile, and Tahlequah, Oklahoma whose artistic experiences include Quechua language arts, shell engraving, Mapuche and Cherokee textiles. "Bringing It Home: Artists Reconnecting Cultural Heritage with Community" aims to recognize and promote Indigenous artistic leadership and knowledge, enhance the artistic growth, and development of emerging student artists and scholars. In this segment, panel moderator Korah English, describes the Artist Leadership Program goals and introduces each of the artists on the panel. This program was webcast on December 10, 2014 from Room 4018/4019 at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D. C.
