- NEA National Heritage Fellow Ofelia Esparza (Purépecha) and her daughter, Rosanna Esparza Ahrens created an ofrenda (altar) in the museum's Potomac Atrium for the 2019 Día de los Muertos celebration. In this video, Olivia Cadaval of the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage introduces Ofelia, who gives a talk about her work in East Los Angeles, teaching the art and culture of ofredas at Self Help Graphics and Art.
