During spring break in 2014, Melissa Shaginoff (Chickaloon Village) and Charles Rencountre (Lower Brule Sioux Tribe), students of the College of Contemporary Arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, took part in the Artist Leadership Program at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). Melissa and Charles describe their experience doing research at the museum's curatorial and conservation facility in Suitland, Maryland, and the overwhelming quantity and quality of Native cultural materials available for study.
