- Chad Kālepa Baybayan, captain and navigator of the Hōkūleʻa, gives a talk on the iconic double-hulled traditional canoe and the Polynesian Voyaging Society entitled He Lani Ko Luna (A Sky Above), In losing the sight of land, you discover the stars. The M̄alama Honua Worldwide Voyage is a 47,000-nautical mile journey around the world, visiting 26 countries and stopping at 85 ports. Interlaced throughout the presentation are stories about the rich history of indigenous Hawaiian deep-sea voyaging, exploration, and oceanic navigation and the efforts to revitalize a once dynamic maritime culture through the symbiotic relationship between land, sea, sky, and people. This presentation was webcast and recorded in the Rasmuson Theater of the in the National Museum of the American Indian.
