Collected in the early 1900s by Charles Herbert Townsend (1871-1956), who was called "Little Man on a Big Horse" by local Native people; inherited by his son John Walter Townsend (1907-1987) and subsequently by John Townsend's son Petrus Enoch Townsend; donated to NMAI in 2002 in memory of Charles Herbert Townsend, the "Little Man on a Big Horse," by his grandchildren: Petrus Enoch Townsend, Lawrence Edward Townsend (1934-1984), Mary Townsend Wallace, Paul W. Townsend (1937-1996), and Burt Townsend.
