Said to have been presented to Chief Keokuk (Sauk, ca. 1780-1848) in 1847; inherited by his son Chief Moses Keokuk (Sac and Fox, 1821-1903); given or sold by Moses Keokuk to an unknown party in 1901; purchased by MAI at an auction held by the Parke-Bernet Galleries (New York City) in 1968.
