Dredged from the Cenote between 1904 and 1910 by archaeologist Edward Herbert Thompson (1857-1935) during fieldwork sponsored by philanthropist Stephen Salisbury III (1835-1905) and archaeologist Charles Pickering Bowditch (1842-1921) for the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts); part of the Peabody Museum collections until 1950 when it was acquired by MAI through an exchange with the Peabody Museum.
