Collected by Dr. Paul Branch Carter (1860-1919) when he lived on the Menominee Reservation circa 1900; given by Dr. Carter to his sister Georgia Orra Carter Carr (Mrs. William P. Carr, 1865-1916); purchased by the US National Museum (later the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History) from Georgia Carr in 1901; exchanged by the US National Museum to Joel Prescott Heatwole (1856-1910, a US Congressman) in 1902; acquired by the East Side Settlement House (a New York City social service organization) at an unknown date; donated to MAI by the East Side Settlement House in 1969.
