Collection History
Collected by William Murphy while prospecting for guano in a cave circa 1882; maintained in his collection until he presented it to Lady Edith Blake (1845-1926, amateur ethnologist, archaeologist, and artist) and her husband Sir Henry Arthur Blake (1840-1918, governor of the Bahamas from 1884 to 1887 and governor of Jamaica from 1889 to 1898) at some point during the Blakes' tenure in the Caribbean; maintained in Lady Blake's collection until 1916 when their collection was purchased by MAI using funds donated by MAI trustee James B. Ford (1844-1928).
