Collection History
In 2016, more than 12,000 people from hundreds of Indian Nations and from around the world gathered at the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation to oppose the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) near the reservation. Hickory Edwards (Onondaga) set up this post at the protest encampment in summer 2016 and, over the course of several months, over 150 signs were added by protestors to commemorate how far they had travelled to join the protests. Donated to NMAI by Hickory Edwards in 2017.
