Collection History
Produced during the Shungnak Jade Project at Shungnak, Alaska, which was supported by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board in the 1950s and 1960s to teach lapidary skills and provide employment to local residents; purchased in 1954 by Indian Arts and Crafts Board representatives from Alaska Native Arts and Crafts (Juneau, Alaska) through Frank Weathers Long (1906-1999, an instructor with the jade project); part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) until 2000 when it was transferred to NMAI.
