Produced during the Kivalina Hoof Project at Kivalina, Alaska, which was supported by the Indian Arts and Crafts Board from 1956 to 1970 to teach jewelry skills and provide employment to local residents; purchased by Indian Arts and Crafts Board representatives from Alaska Native Arts and Crafts (Juneau, Alaska) in 1965; part of the IACB Headquarters collection (Department of the Interior, Washington, DC) until 2000 when it was transferred to NMAI.
