Collection history unknown; formerly in the collection of Paul J. Warner (1881-1950, an amateur ethnologist employed at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois); acquired from him by Indian art collector David T. Vernon (1900-1973) in 1936; acquired by MAI in 1968 through an exchange with the Jackson Hole Preserve, Inc. (a foundation backed by the Rockefeller family), which purchased Vernon's entire collection in 1965.
