Formerly in the collection of San Francisco attorney Charles De Young Elkus (1881-1963) and his wife Ruth Elkus (1884-1972), who both collected Indian art and fought for Indian rights and Bureau of Indian Affairs reform; donated to MAI by Mr. and Mrs. Elkus in 1961.
