Formerly in the collection of Lorenzo Hubbell, Jr. (1883-1942, son of John Lorenzo Hubbell and heir to his trading posts at Ganado, Arizona, and elsewhere) and probably acquired by Lorenzo Jr. between 1915 and 1940 during artists' demonstrations held at Hubbell trading posts; purchased by Frederick J. Dockstader (1912-1998, then of the Dartmouth College Museum in Hanover, New Hampshire, and later MAI director) from the Lorenzo Hubbell Company (Winslow, Arizona) in 1954; purchased by MAI from Frederick Dockstader in 1955.
