Collection History
Collected by Major James O'Neill (1824-1901), probably between 1868 and 1887 when he was an Indian agent for the Niimíipuu (Nez Perce) and also worked on the Colville and Coeur d'Alene reservations; inherited by his daughter Kate O'Neill Tompkins (1850-1916) and subsequently by her daughter Mae T. Bainbridge (Mary Louise Grinnell Tomkins/Mrs. William W. Bainbridge Sr., 1876-1967); purchased by MAI from Mae Bainbridge in 1950.
