Excavated by archaeologist Warren K. Moorehead (1866-1939) in 1891; formerly in the collection of the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago, Illinois); acquired by Allen Brown (1895-1977, an Indian artifact dealer and artist in Chicago, Illinois) in 1936 through an exchange with the Field Museum; acquired from Allen Brown by Robert A. Kercher (1919-2009, an amateur archaeologist and collector from the Cincinnati, Ohio, area) in 1948; purchased from Robert Kercher by Dr. Edgar Burke (1889-1950, a physician and hospital director in Jersey City, New Jersey) in 1950; lent to MAI by Dr. Burke in 1950; donated to MAI by Dr. Burke's sisters, Alicita Burke Lee (Mrs. Frederick S. Lee, 1903-1992) and Minnie Burke Schwab (Mrs. Robert H. Schwab, 1891-1970) in 1951.
