Given by the Indians at the Van Cortlandt Manor House to Pierre Van Cortlandt (1721-1814) in 1728; maintained in the possession of Pierre Van Cortlandt's descendants and inherited by Isabel Matthews Mason (Mrs. William Virginius Mason, 1879-1973) and her sister Catherine Van Cortlandt Matthews (1876-1954); donated to MAI by Mrs. Mason and Mrs. Matthews in 1941.
