Excavated by anthropologist Junius Bird (1907-1982) in 1932 during the Peary Memorial Expedition to erect a memorial to Commander Robert E. Peary (1856-1920) at Cape York, Greenland, led by Captain Robert A. Bartlett (1875-1946) and sponsored by members of the Peary family, Captain Bartlett, and Arthur D. Norcross (1865-1969, a publisher and nature philanthropist); items collected by Junius Bird during the expedition were deposited with MAI in 1932.
