Collected circa 1880 by Colonel Mottram D. Ball (1835-1887, a customs collector at Sitka, Alaska, and U.S. District Attorney for the Alaska Territory between 1876 and 1887); inherited by his daughter Sarah (Sallie) Lewis Ball (1866-1944); purchased by George Heye from Sallie Ball in 1907 through Lieutenant George T. Emmons (1852-1945, US Navy 1881-1899).
