Scope and Contents
"Recording of a press conference held by the Bay Area Native American Counsel, on Alcatraz Island on May 31, 1970. Discussion about how the government had turned off the electricity and water in order to evict the indians who lived on the island, although the indians were never notified that they were to vacate the island. Henry Knockwood from the Nickat tribe gave the opening prayer. Della Leach, a house member of the island appealed for help in order to stay on the island. George Woodard of Bannick questions why the government was involved in Vietnam when they should be caring for America. Bob Burnstock of Canada said the North American indians execute all rights to stay on the island and will renogotiate on their own terms. - BROADCAST May 31, 1970." From Pacifica Radio Archives, item BB4506.
