Scope and Contents
This series contains 15 portrait photographs of various Native American men and women photographed by Adolph F. Muhr, under the direction of Frank A. Rinehart, at the 1898 Trans-Mississippi Exposition in Omaha, Nebraska. Rinehart was the official photographer for this exposition, and as such, photographed a large number of Native American delegates who took part in the exposition's U.S. Indian Congress. The photographs that Rinehart and Muhr shot during the Exposition depict the largest gathering of American Indian leaders at the turn of the twentieth century. Photograph titles were written by Rinehart and/or Muhr.
