Scope and Contents
This 16mm color Kodachrome film For God and Country was shot by amateur filmmaker Arthur J. Hines circa 1950-1955. The film depicts various scenes of American Indian life and patriotism. The footage includes depictions of Window Rock, Arizona; Diné (Navajo) families and enviorns; a Pawnee Memorial Day Powwow in Pawnee, Oklahoma; World War II veteran Jim Murie (Pawnee) and family; Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas; New York Yankees pitcher Allie Reynolds (Creek) at Yankee Stadium; Olympian Jim Thorpe (Sac and Fox); Diné (Navajo) artist Harrison Begay; Osage ballerina Maria Tallchief dancing in the New York Ballet Company; and a county fair. The film is narrated by Arthur J. Hines.
