Scope and Contents
View of two posts of the Grizzly Bear House prior to their removal from Masset, Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands), British Columbia, Canada. They are displayed with a Chilkat blanket, a painted hat, and two daggers that possibly belonged to Xa'na. According to the BC Archives, the photograph is believed to have been taken in 1884 when Richard Maynard accompanied Newton H. Chittenden on his tour of Haida Gwaii (then Queen Charlotte Islands). Newcombe recorded in 1906 that these posts had been taken to Berlin.
