This collection includes twelve photographs taken among the Nakota and Oglala Lakota people circa 1879-1880 in South Dakota.
Biographical / Historical
Leroy Ernest Boyce (1894-1973) was born in Ohio. In 1918, he married his wife, Helen Kleber; they had one son, William. He served in the Navy on the USS Arkansas during World War I. He was listed as an automotive oil worker in Brooklyn, New York in the 1930 census records. In the 1940 census records, Boyce is listed as divorced and an inmate at Rikers.
