Scope and Contents
This collection contains twenty-one 9.5 in. x 6 in. photomechanical prints of drawings created by Nungusuituq (1890-1950), who the publisher credited as Enooesweetok. Nungusuituq served as a local expert and guide on Robert J. Flaherty's expeditions to Hudson Bay and Baffin Island on behalf of Sir William Mackenzie. He was not naturally inclined to draw, but was ordered by Flaherty to create the sketches during a 1913-1914 expedition. Flaherty made prints from the original drawings and published them in 1915. The drawings capture everyday life for the Inuit people and are similar to traditional Inuit carvings on antlers.
Items are numbered P03048-P03068.
