I was born and raised on the Diné (Navajo) reservation near Cedar Ridge, Arizona. I was raised by a network of extended family and clan relatives. I am Kiyaa'aanii (Towering House Clan), born for the Biih Bitoodnii (Deer Water Clan). At the age of 7, the U.S. Government took me away from my family to attend boarding school for Indian children. This was a traumatic experience."")

At the University of Arizona I was awarded a Master of Arts in interdisciplinary studies in Fine Arts and American Indian Studies. I am now taking classes in printmaking."")

I chose to research textiles because it was the first art form taught to me by my mother when I was a very young child. The colors and geometric shapes of textile art have always attracted me.

NMAI's Photo Archives, and Film and Video Department allowed me to view pictures of Diné people from the late 1800s. I also viewed documentaries dealing with the current social and political issues of indigenous communities. This information contributes to the creation of my work.

I'm very grateful to NMAI and ATLATL for this experience. It's directly contributed ot my community through my art and teaching. I've stayed in contact with these two organizations, and continue to be involved in community-based arts programming."")
